2005 SCUT Alumni Board Member Election
Based on our Bylaw,
it is time to elect the new Board members for the next three years. The
election procedure and dates are highlighted as below. We cordially invite
those alumni who are particularly interested in serving our alumni and make the
SCUT Alumni stronger to declare their candidacy for the new Board member.
For all SCUT Alumni, the voting period is: 9/1 ~ 9/20, 2005

list to all SCUTAA alumni for voting. 9/20/05 - Voting ends, up to 21 candidates
with the highest votes will be elected. Later
September or Early October - Announce voting results at the Moon Festival

欧阳景正 (Ou Yang, Jing Zheng) |
Prof. Ouyang
received his BSEE from SCUT in 1956, and PhD from China Academy of Science in
1961. From 1962 to 1995, Prof. Ouyang was with SCUT as a faculty member in the
Department of Radio Engineering. He was the Vice Chairman of the Research
Institute of Radio and Control. Prof. Ouyang also
served as visiting professor/scholar in universities in Germany, Australia,
Hong Kong and the United States. Prof. Ouyang
has been with Silicon Valley companies since 1995. Recently he is with InnoMedia Inc. in Santa Clara as Senior Member of
Technical Staff. Prof. Ouyang has
published 15 Journal papers and 5 books. He holds 5 patents of which two are
granted and three are pending. |

刘志宏 (Liu, Zhihong) |
Dr.
Liu was born in Beijing, China. He received his BS and MS degrees in physics
from SCUT, and a PhD in electrical and electronics engineering from the
University of Hong Kong. From
1978 to 1983, and from 1996 to 1997, Dr. Liu was a faculty member of SCUT.
From 1990 to 1993, he was with the Department of Electrical Engineering and
Computer Science, University of California at Berkeley as a post-doctoral
research fellow, where his major research activities focused on novel gate
oxide preparation and characterization, device modeling and low temperature
device physics. He is the one of the main contributors to the development of
the BSIM3 SPICE MOSFET model, which now is an industry standard for IC design
worldwide.?From 1992 to 1995, Dr. Liu served as a
consultant in several companies, pioneering device modeling and reliability
work. In
1993, Dr. Liu co-founded BTA Technology, Inc., an electronic design
automation software company located in Silicon Valley in California, and was
its VP of Engineering, taking full charge of all product development. In
1995, he became the president and CEO. With his leadership, BTA has
quadrupled its sales and achieved significant profit gain. In 2001, BTA
merged with Ultima Interconnect Technology, Inc.
and formed Celestry Design Technologies, Inc. Dr.
Liu became the CEO and President of Celestry.
Dr. Liu has published over 50
technical papers and received a Best Paper Award at the Internal Electron
Devices Meeting. He has given several invited talks and served as a panelist
and technical committee member for various technical conferences.?Dr.
Liu holds multiple US patents. |

王世平 (Wang, Shiping) |
Dr. Wang received his BS in Chemical & Mechanical Engineering from
SCUT in 1976. Then he was with Guangzhou Beer Plant as an Assistant Engineer.
He received his MS and PhD in Chemical Engineering from SCUT in 1982 and 1989
respectively. From 1990 to 1999, Dr. Wang was with
SCUT as a faculty member in SCUT where he served as Vice President of College
of Chemical Engineering, Director of Research Institute of Chemical
Engineering, and Head of National Heat Transfer Laboratory. Dr. Wang also served as Visiting
Professor/Scholar in University of California at Berkeley, University of
Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, and Tokyo Institute of Technology. Dr. Wang is currently with Applied Materials as
a Senior Process Engineer. |

陈楚楚 (Chen, Chu Chu) |
Chen Chuchu(10478) Ms. Chen graduated from the Department of Mechanical Engineering, SCUT in
1982. She served as Vice Chairman of the Student Association of the
Department, and Vice Chairman then Chairman of the Student Association of
SCUT. Ms. Chen came to the States in 1988. She is currently with the State Government
of California as a software developer. Her interests include literature and
music. She enjoys helping people and believes that SCUT alumni can aid each
other to improve our lives here, foster our next generation to reach higher
achievements, and make SCUT a greater school. |

黄志洋 (Huang, Zhiyang) (Richard) |
Huang, Zhiyang(50179/50383) Mr. Huang received his BS/EE degree from the Department of Radio Engineering in 1983, and MS/EE degree from the Research Institute of Radio & Control in SCUT in 1986. From 1986 to 1989 he was with the Research Institute of Radio & Control, SCUT as a faculty member.
In 1991 Mr. Huang received a MS/EE degree from Syracuse University, Syracuse, New York. Since then, he has been holding engineering positions in Silicon Valley companies including Digicom Systems, Creative Technologies, Zoran, S3, LuxSonor and Cirrus Logic. He is currently with VIA Communications as a Staff Engineer. His major R&D areas include communications and signal processing. |

旋永南 (Xuan,
Yongnan) |
Dr. Yongnan
Xuan (EE 77) Dr.Yongnan Xuan received his BSc degree in Electronic Engineering
from South China University of Technology (SCUT) in Jan 1982 and his PhD
degree in microwave engineering from Leeds University(LU), England in July
1989. His post-doctoral research was conducted at Simon University (SFU),
Canada from Aug. 1989 to Dec 90. Over the past
20 years, Dr.Xuan has held various academic,
technical and senior executive positions in universities and companies in
China, UK, Canada, HK and USA, including SCUT, LU, SFU, MPR, M/A-Com, Concord
Telecom and Flextronics. Dr.Xuan is currently
working in Silicon Valley as Vice President of Flextronics,
responsible globally for RF/wireless areas. He is also a Senior Fellow (there
are only two Fellows) of the company, which is the largest contract
electronics manufacturer in the world with 70,000 employees and annual sales
of $13B. Dr.Xuan's research
interests are in nonlinear microwave circuits and ICs(MMICs),?Wireless
communication systems and their simulations and developments. He has also
been involved extensively in business and management activities. Dr.Xuan is a Fellow
of IEE and a Senior Member of IEEE. He has been elected as a member of the
IEEE Microwave Society Technical Committee and named as a Senior Advisor of
the journal Mobile Communications? |

宋宁 (Song, Ning) |
In 1980, Dr. Song graduated from
Department of Electric Power Engineering, SCUT, where he served as chairman
of the student association. He received his master degree in
management science and computer science from Shanghai Jiaotong
University in 1983. Dr. Song was with the Department of
Management in SCUT from 1983 to 1990. He served as associate chair of the
department from 1989 to 1990. Dr. Song received his MS in 1992, and
PhD in 1997, both in Electrical Engineering, from Portland State University,
Portland, Oregon. Dr. Song has been working as a software engineer in Silicon Valley
since 1993. |

曾铁 (Zeng, Tie) (Ted) |
Zeng, Tie(70377) Mr. Zeng received his BS degree at Industrial
Automation from SCUT in 1982. He continued his graduate studies in the
Department of Automatic Control, SCUT, from 1982 to 1983. He received his MS
degree at Computer Information and Control Engineering from University of
Michigan. Currently
Mr. Zeng is with Adobe Systems as a software
engineer. He was with Apple Computer and UMAX Computer Systems as a software
engineer. His current interest is in Palm software (GPS, games) and software
test automation. Mr. Zeng
is married and has a son and a daughter. |

李曾毅敏 (Lee, Zeng Yimin) (Imin) |
Lee, Imin
(EE Normal Class 77) Director, Engineering Security Technology Group Cisco Systems, Inc. Imin Lee is currently the Director, Engineering in Cisco Security Technology Group with the responsibility of overlooking CS-MARS product line strategy, direction, engineering and operation. Ms. Imin Lee has over 15 years management and technical experience in networking, security, telecommunications, and enterprise software. She was the co-founder and CEO of Protego Networks, which she sold to Cisco in February 2005 for $65M in cash. Like many Silicon Valley startups, Protego had a humble beginning with $1mm seed funding and five engineers. Nevertheless, the company grew quickly in the next two years, expanding to about 40 people and raised $6.5M venture funding. Six month after launching its first product in 2004, Protego has developed sales channels and acquired over 60 customers, despite of competition from other companies. It did not take long for such momentum to catch the eyes of potential partners and acquirers, resulting in Cisco’s acquisition. Imin previously led Cisco’s next generation Policy Configuration Management system team, having responsibility for development, product specification, and launch. Before Cisco, Imin held numerous technical and management positions in Bell Labs and AT&T Labs. While at AT&T, she built the Internet Service Platform for AT&T’s internet telephony and messaging services as well as the carrier services for broadband network telecommunications. Prior to AT&T, Imin served technical positions in Amerex Systems, IBM and teaching position in Guangzhou Vocational University, China. Imin holds an MS degree in Computer Science from State University of New York and a BS degree in Electrical Engineering from South China University of Technology, China. |

肖金生 (Xiao, Jinsheng) (Bert) |
Jinsheng Xiao Received the B.S. and M.S.
degrees from Physics Department of SCUT in 1982 and 1987, with major in
Semiconductor Device. He worked for China Electronic Product Reliability
Research Institute, Guangzhou, from 1987 to 1996, where he was the
deputy director of the Failure
Analysis Center. He was responsible for the study of the failure
mechanisms and reliability evaluation of microelectronic products. Since
1996, he has been a staff engineer of JDS Uniphase
Inc, San Jose, California, where he has been engaged in failure analysis and
reliability assurance of fiber optic products, especially for highly reliable
applications and high power application. One of his hobbies is playing
bridge. |

朱跃生 (Zhu, Yuesheng) (Jackson) |
After
receiving his B.Eng degree in Radio Engineering
from SCUT in 1982 (50277), Zhu Yuesheng became a
faculty member in the Department of Radio Engineering. Later he received his M.Eng degree in Circuits and Systems in the same
department. Since 1990, Dr. Zhu had been working in the Electronic
Engineering Department, City University (CityU) of
Hong Kong and received his Ph. D degree in Electronic Engineering there. Dr.
Zhu was a chairman of Chinese Scholar Association in CityU
from 1992-1997. Prior
to come to the Silicon Valley, Dr. Zhu worked in Multimedia Signal Processing
Research Center, Hong Kong Polytechnic University in Hong Kong, the
Artificial Intelligent Research Center in the Otago
University and Auckland University of Technology, respectively in New
Zealand. He currently works with Innomedia, Inc. in
San Jose. Dr. Zhu is a senior member of
IEEE and a senior member of China Institute of Electronics. His current
interests include digital signal processing in communications, cryptography
and internet security, fuzzy logic, spread spectrum, data compression,
multimedia technology and web technology, . His avocations include chess, swimming, calligraphy

陈赛因 (Chen, Saiyin) (Science) |
Mr. Chen received his MS/EE degree from the
Research Institute of Radio & Control, SCUT in 1990, and MS/CS degree
from CSU, Chico in 1995. Mr. Chen came to the States in 1993. Currently
Mr. Chen is with Innomedia as a software engineer
on VoIP server application development. Prior to Innomedia, he was with Hewlett-Packard and Award Software
as a software/firmware engineer. Mr. Chen loves music, swimming, photography and
outdoor activities. |

李炽基 (Li, Chiji) (George) |
(EE Normal
Class 77) Mr. Li had
studied, lived and worked in South China University of Technology for 9
years. From 1977 to 1982, He was an undergraduate in Electrical Engineering
in SCUT. After graduation, he worked in the university as a teaching
assistant in automation department. Later he became a graduate student
studying control theory and applications. Mr. Li holds
a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering and has published
technical papers in IEEE transactions and conferences.He
is currently a senior hardware development engineer at Cisco Systems Inc. He
has lived in Silicon Valley for 12 years. Mr. Li loves to travel and enjoys skiing, hiking and jogging. |

马志坚 (Ma, Zhijian) (James) |
Zhijian (James)
Ma was born in Guangdong, China. He received
his BS (the highest honor) and MS degrees in Semiconductor Physics and
Devices from the SCUT in 1986 and 1989, respectively. He was the leader of
his former classes, 60382 and Graduate’86 of Physics Dept., in all those
years in SCUT. From 1989 to
1992, he attended the graduate school in the University of Hong Kong. After
receiving his Ph.D degree in EE in 1992, he came to
the United States as a Postdoctoral Researcher in the EECS Dept of UC
Berkeley. From 1994 to 1997, and also from 1998 to 2005, he worked twice for
the Integrated Device Technology Inc as a senior device engineer, a
supervisor and a manager, respectively, responsible for the deep-submicron
MOS device development, device modeling and test chip design. In between 1997
and 1998, he also worked for a fabless IC design
company called Chrontel as a manager of Device
Technology. He is presently working for the Cadence Design Systems as a
senior engineering manager in the areas of advanced device modeling. He has
published 40+ technical papers in the international conferences and journals.
He holds one US patent and has two more on pending. Dr. Ma, an
IEEE member, is a social and enthusiastic person. He and his wife are
currently living in the city of Cupertino with two wonderful boys, Jack and
Justin. |

许曦明 (Hui, Heiming) (Bob) |
Bob Heiming Hui,
20279 Bob developed the first PC-based Cargo Forwarding Operation and
Accounting software in Hong Kong and the software was launched at 1988 Hong
Kong Software Exhibition. He has a MS in CS from CSU-Hayward. He is currently
working for Oracle Corporation as a senior development manager in
Applications Technology Group. He holds the responsibility for uptaking the state-of-art technology such as Java, BC4J,
etc for Oracle E-Business Suite. Before Oracle, he worked as software release
manager for MDL Information, Inc in 1993. He also held various senior
computer engineer positions in Silicon Graphics, Inc (HK 89) and South China
Computer Company (Canton 83). He was one of 20279 graduates from SCUT. Play golf, tennis, basketball, badminton and ping pong are Bob's
hobbies. Bob was also event head organizer for 1985 reunion of 20279ers and

彭彩君 (Peng, CaiJun) (Helen) |
Ms Peng
received Bs/EE degree from Radio & Electronic Engineering Dept of Zhejiang University, HangZhou,
in 1983 and Ms/EE degree from Physics Dept of SCUT in 1986 where she also
worked as an Assistant Lecturer till 1988. She was with the Dept. of
Electrical & Electronic Engineering of the University of Hong Kong from
1988 to 1992 and with the Center for Optical Electronics, National University
of Singapore from 1992 to 1995 where she got 2nd Ms/EE degree. Ms Peng
has been working for Semiconductor IC design houses for about 10 years and
currently is with Microchip Technology at mountain view Design center as a
staff device engineer with the interest of spice modeling, new process
development and also acts as a foundry interface. Ms. Peng
loves traveling, snow skiing and other outdoor activities. She has been here
in Silicon Valley since 1997. |

Steve
Lin (Dept. of Light Chem. Eng. Class 1977) Steve
Lin received his BS and MS degrees from SCUT in 1982 and 1985, respectively.?From 1985-1986, he was a faculty member in
the Dept. of Light Chem. Eng.He is an active
alumnus of SCUT.He is a coordinator of SCUT
graduate class 82 and is currently organizing a class reunion in US this
year. Dr.
Lin received his Ph.D. degree from State University of New York and Syracuse
University in 1994.?Since then, Dr. Lin has worked as a senior technical
member with different Bay area companies in the fields of biotechnology,
ophthalmic optics, fiber optics and semiconductor.Dr.
Lin co-founded Usafe Tek
International in 1999.Currently Dr. Lin is developing a first TFT on plastic
in the world at FlexICs, Inc. Dr. Lin has been a board director of Silicon Valley Science and
Technology Association (www.svsta.org)
since 1999.?He was a committee member of Chinese Student Association of
Greater Syracuse Area from 1987 to 1988. Dr. Lin was granted multiple national
patents including five US patents. Three more US patents are pending. |

Prof. Chen was with the Department of Mechanical Engineering, SCUT ever
since he graduated in 1956. Now he is retired in Bay Area but still caring
for our alumni and the school. |

William
Guan (Chemical & Mechanical Engineering Class 77, SCUT) In
1981, received BS degree in Chemical & Mechanical Engineering from South
China University of Technology, China. From 1981 to 1988, worked in Guangdong
Detergent Factory as a Chemical/Mechanical Engineer and Technical Manager.
Came to the United States in 1988. Has been working in Silicon Valley for 15
years. In 1996, received MS degree in Mechanical Engineering from San Jose
State University. Is currently with Avanex as a
Staff Mechanical Engineer. |

Tian Wu (Dept. of Electrical Engineering,
class 1987) Graduated
from EE, SCUT, Mr. Wu served as the Secretary General of the Association of Radio
Technologic Lover, one of the biggest and famous student association in SCUT.
At the same time, he also served as the Vice Minister of Association
Department of the SCUT Student Association. He received his MS/EE degree from San Jose State University in 1992.
After joining and co-founding couple startups, he is now with Broadcom as a
Principal Engineer. |
